9 lessons from the real Vikings

I am actually quite grateful for the show Vikings, it is well made, funny and can make young people of Nordic and Germanic descent to become more interested in their own history and heritage. However there are still many blatant lies in the show about my ancestors that is easily refuted by studying real history books, anthropology and the writings from that time.

In the show the Vikings seem to be drunk most of the time, but real Vikings actually despised people who couldn’t control their drinking. In the show the Vikings are extremely promiscuous, bisexual and degenerates, there is no basis for saying that they behaved this way, but we know that infidelity among women were punished by death and that they valued blood ties above anything. But I will touch more on this later.

First I will say that I never identified as Viking since this is just one short period of my peoples history, I think very few Christians identify as crusaders and very few Japanese people identify as Samurai. But still I believe there are many great lessons we as Norsemen can extract from this period of our history that is more relevant for our people today than ever before.

1. Be a trader

The Vikings were great conquerors and warriors, but their greatest accomplishments to gain territory and power were actually in trade. At centers of Viking trade in the north they have found artifacts like spices, art and tools from the middle-east, Greece and even from the furthest parts of Asia. Of course it didn’t Hurt that they could back up their trade-deals with the most feared and fearless warriors of their time, but they had an even greater advantage with their amazing boats that could travel further than any other people at that time. So maybe Donald Trump is so great at making deals because of his German blood and that if you wish to be Viking you should start by reading his book “The art of the deal”.

2. Eat and drink in moderation.

If you read the old poetic Edda as well as ancient Nordic sagas it becomes very clear that no one respected people who were fat or who drank to much. The collection of wisdom from the Vikings “The Havamal” talks more about the importance of not drinking to much than about almost anything else. The old tales and sayings makes fun of people who eat and drink excessively and warns anyone to trust or make deals with them.

3. Be generous.

The most common theme in the writings on the rune stones that were raised in memory of the dead doesn’t talk about wealth, how much land they owned or about how many people they slept with (things we seem to value today). The one thing they seemed to have wanted to be remembered by was their generosity. I want to clarify that generosity here doesn’t refer to paying taxes or sending money abroad, but about giving food and shelter to travelers who happened to come by their house while traveling.

4. Keep your word.

The second most common theme on the rune stones is keeping your word. In the television show Vikings people are lying left and right about everything. If someone couldn’t be trusted in the tribe they were a liability for their whole community and when winter came and everyone had to share their resources they had to be able to trust each other. To make an oath was not like making a new years resolution today. Making an oath was seen as something as serious as life and death, to brake an oath could be punished by death and even worse – by the gods.

5. Value art and poetry

When the tv-show Vikings showed the Nordic warriors with elaborate haircuts and tattoos  many screamed that this was inaccurate, but this is actually one of the aspects of the show that point more to the truth than any many other details in their depictions. The Vikings did use pretty advanced tools for cutting and trimming their hairs and beards which have been shown in findings of old Viking villages. And the Vikings did sometimes have tattoos which have been shown by remnants from old Viking burial site. The Vikings also created astonishing art and handcraft.

Most of what we know from our Nordic ancestors culture and worldview come from poetic depictions like in the older Edda. One of their highest aspirations were to be remembered, like it says in the Edda “the fame of a dead mans deeds”, and the way they were remembered was in stories and poetry. So the bard and the poet was valued very high in the tribe, and like people today gather around the television to be fed mostly bullshit, in the past we used to gather around the fire to listen to the poets and storytellers to hear tales of our ancestors and the gods.

6. Be a free man, a Karl.

The Vikings had their own cast system that had divine origin (read Rigstula) the lowest were the thrall, they were the one who works for others on a farm or as servants, todays equivalent would be the wage slave. They were not like the untouchables in the Indian cast-system but they were not considered free men either. The cast above the thrall were the Karl. The Karl were someone who owned their own land and or their own enterprise. You at least had to be a Karl to go Viking, that is to go on raids or trade abroad. Above the Karls were the Jarl, they were similar to the nobles and could be vassals of the King. The King or Könge is ofcourse the highest cast.

7. Be courageous, go to paradise.

The gods of the Vikings the Aesir and Vanir were not like the God of the Abrahamitic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They were not necessarily fair, omnipotent or even good, and they rarely if ever intervened in the life of humans. Of course the Vikings sacrificed to the gods but they didn’t expect them to reciprocate. The gods are like nature, like the daring sea, like wind, thunder and earthquakes, they could be gentle or ruthless and they rarely knew why.

The biggest hope for the Vikings to reach paradise – Valhalla, was to die in battle and be recognized by the gods so that a Valkyrie would come and lead them to the realm of the gods. When being brave is your highest virtue its easy to see why the Vikings were so successful in most of their endeavors. If you stand in front of a choice in business, love or war, and you knew that the only way to reach paradise and be remembered by your kin is by being brave, to decide the right action becomes much easier – what is the bravest thing to do!

8. Put family first.

In movies and television they like to portray the Vikings as frivolous and degenerates who spends most of their free time screwing around with anyone and everyone, that they would share their women with eachother and even with men from other continents. They also stab their own relatives and brothers in the back on a consistent basis. None of this is or was typical for our Nordic ancestors. Women who were found guilty of infidelity were punished by death, and men who betrayed their own blood were considered the lowest of all criminals and would most certainly be entitled Varg I Veum that is to be outlawed and could therefor legally be killed by anyone without repercussions.

They also believed that their ancestors could be reborn within their linage and therefor they used to give newborns the name of deceased relatives. Just like we can today (if we stay true to our blood that is) see the faces, characteristics, colors and abilities of our passed away relatives and of ourselves in our children, so could they.

There are theories that the earliest humans couldn’t understand the connection between sex and children, but the Vikings definitely did and they also to a certain extent could understand the concept of evolution which again is reflected in the sacred Rigstula were its described how Heimdall created the different casts by visiting the humans every new generation and had sex with their women to make every new generation more able, noble and refined. That Vikings then should have risked to have a bastard offspring by letting their women sleep around is a ridiculous idea.

9. Build a legacy.

In lesson number five I mention a verse in the poem Havamal that stood out among the others, it goes like this;

Cattle die, | and kinsmen die, And so one dies one’s self; One thing now | that never dies, The fame of a dead man’s deeds

Our ancestors believed like many other peoples that the life we live here on earth reflects the life in the next, that is why most Vikings were buried with weapons and riches and in some cases even with their wife or wives that sacrificed themselves so that they could join their men in afterlife.

But if even if you didn’t know for sure that the stories about the gods or Valhalla were true, you could be certain that people would remember you if you lived a noble and courageous life. Maybe you who reads this don’t believe in the gods and stories of your ancestors, but you can be certain that you will live on through your children and by the stories about you if you lived a life worth remembering.

Don’t postpone fighting!

When I was in elementary school and even before that, me and many of my peers were being bullied by the stronger kids, especially the older ones. When my parents found out they contacted the other parents and my school to make them lecture my tormentors, needless to say it led to me being bullied and beaten even more severely for many more years. Instead another classmate of mine didn’t have parents that was so “caring” so he had to figure out how to solve the problem with the bullies himself.

So one day before class we were gathered outside the school, my friend just walked up to one of the fat older bullies and without a warning pushed him to the ground and started pounding his face in. The fat bully screamed for help but his bullying friends just watched it happen with awe. My friend ended the beating with the words “if you even breath around me I will beat you to death you fat peace of shit”. The bullies never bothered my friend again, his self-esteem went up along with his grades, training results and ability to ask girls out. I believe that this became a rite of passage for him.

For me it would take another two years of bullying and getting my ass kicked before I had another “rite of passage” when me and a friend borrowed his older brothers motorcycle and tried to run away from the cops. At that time I was too young to get any penalty by the police but I earned the respect from my older peers and were left in peace, at least for a few years before I entered a multicultural gymnasium, but that is another story.

The point with this anecdote is that my parents with all well-meaning did me a great disservice by not teaching me that bullying and fighting is a part of life and that the earlier you start to fight back the stronger you will be mentally and you will gain peace enough to focus on other pursuits and the self-esteem to accept other challenges of life. My friend who beat up the bully told me a decade later that he is grateful that he got his ass beaten so early and so hard that it made him toughen up and grow up much earlier than the other guys in our class, many of them are still pussies to this day.

Now I am in my mid-thirties and just recently I started developing the grit and toughness I needed more than twenty years ago, but better late than never, I am just glad that I didn’t wake up to this realization on my deathbed knowing that I wasted my whole life playing it safe. My father grew up with a extremely mean father, bullying and poverty, his parents died when he was still a kid so he had to grow up very fast to work two jobs and study at night to be able to support his other siblings.

So to compensate for his hard upbringing he instead showered me and my brother with gifts, safety and all the candy we could eat. He still thought me many good lessons and he could be very strict, but he didn’t realize that the fact that he had managed to become an accomplished athlete, a grade A student, win the hearth of a model, become one of the greatest programmers in the country and build his own company was because of his tough upbringing not despite of it. At the end of January I will have a son and I will not make the same mistake with him. I am not saying I will become a mean tyrant to make him tough, but I will be honest with him about the real conditions of life.

I hate bullies, but the truth is that bullying is a natural part of life (even though it can be taken to far of course). Bullying exists with most species in nature where the weakest often get picked, clawed or smashed to death or just left behind which often is even worse in the wild. Bullying and fighting is also a way to establish hierarchies, even among bullies there is a picking order. I am not encouraging bullying, but at least a healthy dose of shaming, name-calling and subduing is necessary. For most of our existence until very recently this was a matter of life and death. Because if you choose people who didn’t measure up to protect your borders, to hunt or raid an enemy village, just one weak link that tries to flee from combat could crush the morality of your peers and encourage the enemy to wipe all of you out. So stop postpone the unavoidable, learn how to fight and get down to business!

Being precent or living in the moment?

Last week I burned my hand quite severely. It was an accident while cooking, I was tired, stressed, I was suffering from the flu, and I tried to do several things at once. The pain was immense but it was entirely my own fault, I wasn’t present enough to notice that I hadn’t turned of the stove. However painful it can seem to have an accident like this, it is nothing compared to the suffering caused by not being present in the long term. Let me explain.

Going to McDonalds can actually be quite a pleasurable experience, if your very hungry and not aware of the crap they put in their “food”. But if you go to McDonald’s everyday for maybe ten years and you start to suffer from diabetes and a high blood pressure as a result of it, it is actually the long term equivalence of me burning my hand on the stove. Because you weren’t aware of the long-term consequences of what you were eating in the present everyday for a long time, you caused yourself a lot of pain and possibly permanent damage to your health.

The false understanding of living in the moment.

Today the concept of living in the moment have been commercialized and perverted beyond recognition. Now there are ads on television with modern-looking youngsters eating candy with a reassuring background voice saying “be in the moment”. You can hear some fat fuck at the bar telling his friend “hey man have another beer you gotta live in the moment” and so on. To be present does not equate with living frivolously. To be present is to be aware of cause and reaction as well as being attentive to what’s going on around you.

This concept is as stupid as the modern concept of YOLO (you only live once), I have heard people justify taking drugs with this motivation. Yes you only live once, so why not try to live as long and be as capable as possible so you can feel content with your life the day you will have to face the prospect of death.

Mindfulness means conscious presence.

The concept of mindfulness have become very popular today with courses in mindful cooking, mindful sex, mindful studying and so on. In Swedish mindfulness have been translated into “Medveten närvaro” which means “conscious presence”. I prefer this term since it refers to its original meaning. If your really practicing Mindfulness on a consistent basis you don’t need special courses in mindful gardening, mindful masturbation or whatever, because you are trying to be mindful in everything.

The concept of mindfulness comes from Buddhism even if we can find similar techniques in Stoicism. Unlike what many people believe the Buddha did not mainly propose that his followers should meditate a few hours per day and then just go about the rest of their days mindlessly, he thought his students that their whole day should be a meditation. He told his students that they should meditate while walking, eating, having sex (if they werent monks) and even while taking a crap. To live in the present, to be mindful in its original context means to be aware of the realities of life, the laws of nature and most of all of death.

So be aware that life consists of the moment, that is all you have. Don’t numb yourselves with drugs or alkohol or television, that is not being in the moment that’s missing it. Life is short so make the best of it and remember – fucking YOLO!

My relationship with death and were I stood!

Me in 2004-2005 the T-shirt says ”Crush Sionism”

I pray to the Gods that they may grant me a long life, at least until old age will start to diminish the qualities that makes me able to be a man. I don’t wish to be one of those people living in a old-folks home, where nurses have to wipe my ass and feed me oatmeal with a spoon. I guess I have a romantic image of dying peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends, but its more likely I will die alone and suddenly like most people do.

Most people try to avoid thinking about death until its to late. I have always thought about it since I was a kid, that was just one part of my weirdness.  But since then this have been reinforced many times. First when political opponents (at least ten of them armed with steelpipes and bottles) tried to beat me to death in 2005. Then after an allergic reaction in 2010 where I stopped breathing long enough to feel my soul descend into darkness (no white lights). Except for these happenings I had many more skirmishes with death. And in 2014 both my mother and my grandfather died that were the people closest to me in my life.

The importance of death and intentions.

All these events have made me develop an even closer relationship with death, and an awareness that it can strike at any second for a billion of different reasons. This have instilled in me an urgency to express in actions and words what I wish to contribute to this world before I pass on to the great unknown. That’s what this post is mainly about and to maybe instill some of that urgency unto those of my brothers, family and friends that have not considered the greater implications of their own mortality.

It is said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but I will still contest that our intentions are important, especially when it comes to motives. If I were to be judged right now based on my previous life from the beginning of my young adult life and forward I wouldn’t be very proud to represent more than half of it, partly because I have been misguided (like most of us) even if this is not an excuse. But one thing I can say proudly is that I have always searched for the truth even when it have taken me into very uncomfortable places both political and personal.

My resistance, burnout and comeback.

Already in my teenage years I identified some of the main cultural and spiritual diseases of our time in the Western world and I decided to fight them and their culprits. I did this for more than seven years in politics before I got burned out by pressure from the system by my own failings and being deceived by people I called brothers. I took a timeout and started searching once again for meaning and truth which took me to many strange places and finally to the belly of the beast where i once again discovered the same enemy i saw in my teen years and in its opposite, that is my real identity, context and purpose, which brings me to the main point of this article, that is who i am and what i stand for;

My name is Ernst Robert Almgren which is a Germanic name, it means: Ernst = serious, honest. Robert = The bright, honorable, victorious. Almgren is a local Swedish name.  I am a Swedish, Germanic and European man. I worship the old gods and goddesses – the Aseir and the Vanir. I believe in the tribe and traditional families were the natural genders complement each other. I believe in the organic society organized in guilds, with natural hierarchies and casts were everyone in the tribe or community are not the same but where everyone has a place and a worth in opposite to the egalitarian society were everyone is equally worthless.

My main beliefs.

I believe that my purpose in life is first and mostly to fight for my tribe and my people, to be a reliable and worthy brother in arms and in life. I believe its my duty to be a role-model for my children, to give them security and wisdom for becoming good and honest members of the tribe. I believe its my duty to be a strong, courageous and a dependable man for my woman as its her duty to honor me and be a loving and caring mother for our children. I believe in the nine noble virtues as expressed in both variations by the Asatru folk assembly and the Odinic rite.

My daughter

I also believe that no matter how far me, my peers, family, my tribe or this whole fucking world descend into degeneracy, perversion and nihilism, I will never believe that its to late and I will continue to stand for the higher values that have guided my people for thousands of years before we started to stray from their path into self-loathing, defeatism and hedonism. So to my children, my brothers, my family and friends – I fight for you, our families and the extension of us, not mostly for what are, but for what we were and what we can become!

Most of them will die!

In the book ”Convergence of catastrophes” by the author Guillame Faye predicts that there will be a bunch of catastrophes emerging in about the same time, the main ones are economic, ecologic and ethnic. I believe that this will force us to create a convergence of solutions. To face the ecologic crises we need to hunt, fish and farm our own lands again. To face the economic meltdown we need to return to basic production and trade again. And to face the demographic catastrophe of mostly the Western world with massive immigration of hostile ethnic groups and religions, we will need to become racially aware and tribal again.

I think this shift In living and thinking will be forced upon us with time, but of course fate will probably favor the prepared as it usually does. But even if no catastrophe emerge in our lifetime it doesn’t matter, we will at least have created a better foundation for our children to face it. But also this way of life is superior to the current accepted ideals (or lack thereof) of life since it’s closer to the evolutionary conditions that made us into humans in the first place.

xxx_conan_barbarian_mov__05126_43606735.jpg

Convergence of solutions

We do have many emerging crises that seem to be converging at the same time, but there are no one simple way to fight this, rather we have to build on ourselves and focus on our own communities to create a better foundation for our children to face these issues when they grow up. If shit hits the fan, it won’t have mattered if you belonged to the right side or the left side of the political spectrum, the only thing that will matter is your network of people, your personal skills, your resources (like weapons, fertile land, clean water and so on).

But we don’t live in a post-apocalyptic world, not yet anyway. If you live in Europe, Canada, US, Australia or New Zeeland or in any moderately healthy eastern-European state, there are no excuses for you not to be a stable, self-sufficient, strong, well-prepared and well-founded man. You should be like a renaissance-man – someone who knows many things. You should not be a tin-foil hat person kind of guy that spends his days spreading doom and gloom on social media without creating anything (I have been guilty for this myself). You should be able to fight, to build a house, to hunt, to fire a rifle (and preferably own one), to read a map and win the respect of other men you admire.

The way of men.

If you still don’t know what kind of man you should aspire to be I recommend that you read The way of men by Jack Donovan, I will write a review about this amazing book in the near future. But if you still spend time bitching about what a horrible state the world is in, then you still didn’t get what it takes to prepare for the revolution. And when things really gets so bad that most whiners try to say it already is, they won’t be allowed to complain the way they are now anyway, because internet will be to restricted or it won’t exist at all.

The new man – archeofuturism.

In another book by Guillame Faye ”Archeofuturism” the author argues for a new way of life and organizing society that is a synergy between our must essential archaic values and biological predispositions combined with the best of modern technology and medicine. For myself i try to live according to this by following a paleo diet (the old) but use supplements of vitamin-D and Omega 3 to get enough nutrition because of the deteriorated quality of modern food sources (the new). I try to spend as much time in nature as possible and use organic clothes (the old) while using internet and social media to promote good values, stay connected to brothers who live abroad and make money to support my family and my tribe until the economic system fails totally (the new).

Most of them will die.

The new man that will survive the coming man-made catastrophes are not the flamboyantly dishonourable, feminist, soyalatte-drinking, vegan hipster. The new man will be a tribalist, racially aware, a masculine survivalist, who can be a predator in both the corporate world and in the wild forest. He is a patient wolf ready at any moment to kill or enslave his enemies, to ravage his woman and sacrifice the heads of his detractors to the Gods of old. The SJW would object to this and say ”but we can’t all live like this, most people would die”, and they are right. That is another important distinction between the globalist and the tribalist, the whole of humanity is not our concern, just our part of it, and if you don’t wish to take sides when the time comes, you will perish as well.

Neither the bank or the beggar made you a loser

The left mostly complains about billionaires and multinational corporations as the main evil in the world, even though it’s the same source that are the main sponsor of their ideas, like George Soros and Coca Cola. The right generally complains about mass immigration, and people who get welfare without working, but still they continue to support the systems that makes this possible. I personally have friends in both camps, even though I try to spend as little time with them as possible, because defeatism is contagious.

Of course the dominantly liberal economic system in your country changes the conditions for what you wish to achieve. If you wish to start a business and you live in a predominantly socialist country like here in Sweden, then of course its going to be harder than if you lived in a predominantly country like the US. And if you wish to survive running a non-profit endeavor the reverse is more true.

However no country in the west is purely a free-market or a total socialist society. You can, and many do, start a successful business in Sweden, and you sure can run a non-profit political organization with at least some help of the state in the US. And no matter how high the taxes are in your country, or how little support there is by the state in your part of the world, you still have more possibilities than previous generations.

My father didn’t have a cellphone or internet. He couldn’t travel across the planet for a ticket that didn’t cost more then a one-month salary, only very rich people could do that. But still he created a very rich and stable childhood for his family and took us on travels across the world before it broke from other reasons.

The generation before mine (I was born in 1981) didn’t have social media, self-publishing book houses, high-resolution movie-cameras that could fit in their pocket. They didn’t have simple pay services like Swisch, they didn’t have Uber or Ryanair. But still that time gave birth to some of the greatest and most inspirational entrepreur’s of our century. Yes we had some financial crises and there are severe conflicts going on in the world. But we don’t have any great depression, we don’t have any cold war and so on. Sure we have terrorism, mass-immigration, a rape-epidemic and so on.

But no matter how bad the mainstream media or alter-media wish to paint things, its really not that bad. Because if it was, we would have another Stalin or Hitler on the rise, and neither the socialist or the right have anything that can compare to these figures today in any part of the world. No. Trump is not like Hitler and Obama is not a communist.

I am sure that all this will come, however I am not sure it will come during my lifetime. But what i do know is that our forebears managed to survive in the face of conditions so extreme its hard for us to imagine them, the further back the more extreme. So if we are not thriving right now its not because we live in such extreme times, but because we got weak and strayed from the path of our ancestors. Its time we get back on track, its time to get strong, to honor the Gods and our ancestors. How we do that is the subject for my next article.

Why Justin Bieber is more badass than you!

Clarification: in a rockclub in Stockholm there is a note at the counter saying ”whenever you tip the waitress a Beiber-fan die” and that sure convinced me. I think Justin Biebers music suck, and his image kind of makes me wanna puke, but then again, I am not a 14 year old girl, and that is clearly his audience, and if he can make money on horny little girls just like Stephanie Meyers with Twilight, who gives a shit.

However when I see lazy, fat dudes with no ambitions sitting at a bar with crums of pizza on their bellies chuckling out loud with beer coming out of their nose ”Justin Bieber, what a pussy”, my response is ”really tough guy?”. Sure Biebers official persona is more gay and sleezy than Liberace and the Hanson brothers combined. But considering his achievements i wouldnt brag about how much greater I was unless I actually accomplished something.

When Justin grew up with a poor single mother he played hockey, fotball and chess with music on the side. Before he got his breakthrough at only fourteen he learned to play piano, drums, guitarr and trumpet. At 2007 he performed his music in front of an audience at a local competition, his mother filmed it and put it on Youtube, thats where it took of.

So already before he had his breakthrough he had accomplished more on his freetime without money or connections than most grown men have done in a lifetime. Most grown men cant do anything musical or anything else outside of what is required of them.

Most grown men would never dare to even speak in front of a big audience and wouldnt have anything to show if they did. Sure I laughed my ass off when i heard that Justin got in a fistfight with Orlando Bloom (twinks in combat), but most men have never even been in a fight at all.

Oh yeah, a real man right?

So how do I know all this? Not being a devoted Belieber. The reason was actually an interview with him in a issue of mens health. The article was half a tribute and half a mockery about Justins person, which seems quite fair. But one thing struck me about the interview and made me intrigued. That was the fact that Justin really made an effort to show to the reporters that he is in fact manly.

He train martial arts, got some ink and also worked hard to build muscle and strenght. Ofcourse its nearly impossible for him to save his flamboyant image at this stage, but atleast he is trying. Most ”men” today dont seem to give a fuck. To put it in Jack Donovan terms ”he might be flamboyant, but not dishonourable flamboyant”.

Ofcourse Bieber is not a badass compared to the men I look up too. But compared to 90% of people I see around me and in popular media he is, and that should make us all worry about where masculinity is going!
